20 YEARS OF ACHTUNG BABY 

Twenty years ago, Bono described Achtung Baby as 'the sound of four men chopping down The Joshua Tree' while Jon Pareles of the New York Times wrote that 'stripped-down and defying its old formulas, U2 has given itself a fighting chance for the 1990's'. The album won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance and became one of the most significant records of the nineties and of U2’s career.

To mark twenty years since its 1991 release, an anniversary edition of U2’sAchtung Baby is due on October 31, 2011.

Recorded over six months at Hansa Studio in Berlin and Windmill Lane in Dublin, Achtung Baby is U2’s seventh studio album. Produced by long time U2 collaborators, Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno with Steve Lillywhite, Achtung Babywas engineered by Flood and led by The Fly. The album spawned four other singles, Mysterious Ways, One, Even Better Than The Real Thing and Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses.

The Achtung Baby archives have unearthed some previously unreleased songs from the recording sessions. With a raft of unreleased material; video, remixes, b-sides and documentary footage discovered, a full album of demo and early versions of the final 1991 tracklisting has also been revealed. Five physical editions including vinyl, CD, DVD and digital options will be made available.

Earlier this year U2 returned to Hansa Studio in Berlin to discuss Achtung Babyin From The Sky Down, directed by Academy Award winning director Davis Guggenheim (Waiting for Superman, An Inconvenient Truth). The film has been selected to open the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8th and will be included in the anniversary edition.

Los miembros del grupo irlandés U2 hablan de su icónico álbum Achtung Baby y de su posterior carrera en este documental, cercano y personal, que revela las diferencias creativas y las discusiones a las que la banda tuvo que enfrentarse y que la llevaron a convertirse en el aclamado grupo que hoy conocemos. El álbum, que ganó un premio Grammy, se convirtió en uno de los discos más representativos del rock de la década de 1990 y de la propia trayectoria del grupo.

Dirigido por Davis Guggenheim (ganador del Oscar al mejor documental por "Una verdad incómoda"), el filme contiene entrevistas y material gráfico inédito del grupo tanto en Dublín como durante la grabación del disco en los estudios Hansa de Berlín y muestra la tumultuosa época en la que el cantante Bono, el guitarrista Edge, el batería Larry Mullen Jr. y el bajista Adam Clayton crearon uno de los discos más vendidos de todos los tiempos.

From the Sky Down is a 2011 documentary film directed by Davis Guggenheim about rock band U2 and the production of their 1991 album Achtung Baby. The film documents the album's difficult recording period, the band members' relationships, and the group's creative process. Guggenheim, who was commissioned by U2 to create the film to commemorate the record's 20th anniversary, spent several months in 2011 developing the documentary. The band were filmed during a return visit to Hansa Studios in Berlin where the album was partly recorded, and during rehearsals in Winnipeg for the Glastonbury Festival 2011. The film contains unreleased scenes from the group's 1988 motion picture Rattle and Hum, along with archival footage and stills from the Achtung Baby recording sessions. One sequence from the film recounts the improvization of the album's emblematic song "One" through the replaying of old recording tapes.

The film premiered at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, 2011, the first time in the festival's history that a documentary was screened as the opening film. Beginning in October, a series of television broadcasts commenced, including showings on BBC Television, Showtime, and Super Channel. The film was bundled with the deluxe editions of Achtung Baby's 20th anniversary reissue and was later released as standalone copies on Blu-ray and DVD on December 12, 2011. Reviews from critics were mixed; many found the insight into the band's creative process informative, while others judged that the film did not provide enough depth in covering the album. From the Sky Down was nominated for the 2013Grammy Award for Best Long Form Music Video.
